DESCRIPTION:We are excited to have Matt Jennings back at Jomas Hill on Saturday March 21st!Matt grew up in Pittsburgh mimicking hard rock guitarists and honing his songwriting skills from an early age. After moving to Minneapolis for college\, he studied abroad in Mexico and later taught English in China. In Mexico\, he was entranced by the sound of mariachi trumpeters and violinists practicing on the streets. And he learned the basic techniques of mariachi guitar firsthand from a man named Nacho. In China\, he played in a live karaoke band and a Chinese hard rock band\, while spending countless hours watching the South China Sea out his apartment window with a $20 Kapok acoustic guitar in his hands. After soaking in how these different cultures use rhythm and melody\, he transformed his hard rock and folk roots into an international style of music that incorporates elements of flamenco\, reggae\, surf\, mariachi\, samba\, bachata\, tango\, jazz\, and metal\, among many other influences. ​

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to have Matt Jennings and bassist\, Dan Carpel back at Jomas Hill on July 27th!Matt grew up in Pittsburgh mimicking hard rock guitarists and honing his songwriting skills from an early age. After moving to Minneapolis for college\, he studied abroad in Mexico and later taught English in China. In Mexico\, he was entranced by the sound of mariachi trumpeters and violinists practicing on the streets. And he learned the basic techniques of mariachi guitar firsthand from a man named Nacho. In China\, he played in a live karaoke band and a Chinese hard rock band\, while spending countless hours watching the South China Sea out his apartment window with a $20 Kapok acoustic guitar in his hands. After soaking in how these different cultures use rhythm and melody\, he transformed his hard rock and folk roots into an international style of music that incorporates elements of flamenco\, reggae\, surf\, mariachi\, samba\, bachata\, tango\, jazz\, and metal\, among many other influences. ​

Hailing out of Waconia Minnesota\, this group has kept a busy schedule playing local\, regional and national stages for over 34 years. Led by multi- instrumentalist Clark Machtemes\, their brand of story driven songs\, sense of song craft and arsenal of instruments have led to national radio play\, commercial jingles and songwriter showcases across the country. Traveled Ground plays as a full band and at times as an acoustic duo and trio. Traveled Ground has released seven full length albums. Their music is available on all major streaming sites and at live shows. They are a group that continues to evolve but yet remain grounded in American Roots Music.
